4 essentials for life

                                                               Drs. Baum and Braun speaks:

                                               The 4 essentials to Life:

There have been found to be four basic essentials to life, as we know it.  The difference in excellence of these four things gives way to a respective quality of life.  Of course, it is left up to you to choose this higher quality, leading you to live longer and happier, instead of just existing!

Food ~ the body can live approximately 30 days without food. The nutrients gained from food give the body energy, supplying fuel for movement as well as healing and self-sustaining actions, (ex. Breathing, blood flow, muscle contractions, etc).  It is the quality of this food that determines how much nutrition the body receives.  Also determined by this factor, are what toxins the body must "weed out" in order to gain nutrition.  Many processed foods today lack nutrition altogether, many vegetables and fruits are covered in pesticides or are genetically engineered.  This just presents the body with yet another obstacle, taking away valuable energy from the body to rid itself of such toxic junk.  Make a choice, choose organic unprocessed foods, the way nature makes them, and minimize the toxins in your lifestyle.

Water ~ the body can live approximately 4 days without water.

You body has an average of 60 to 70% total make up of water.  Your brain is 83%, muscles 75%, and bones 22%.  Infants are approximately 70 to 80% water.  So really we all just need to drink more, but what about the quality?  There are things lurking in our water supplies today.  In fact many cities send out alerts as to the local water contents.  It is best to start drinking filtered water, and because your skin is an absorptive organ, possibly filter the water in which you bathe!

Air ~ the body can only live for a matter of minutes without air (about 4min.).

Some people have trained hard to gain larger lung capacity.  However the world record for holding ones breath is still a matter of minutes.  It is the oxygen in our air that allows the body to thrive, a major part of the chemical cycle that produces energy for all the body's functions.  Do your part to help keep the air as clean as possible!

~ And Nerve Supply ~

The body can only live a fraction of a second without nerve supply!

The Nervous System has two main parts, the Central and the Peripheral systems.  The entire nervous system acts as a master system, it controls everything that you do, and don't think about doing.  That is to say, not a single thing happens without your nervous system first initiating an action.  In fact it is so important that it is the first thing that is created when a fetus is growing and it is entirely encased in bone for protection.  Every action, healing, hearing, seeing, breathing, blood flow, temperature maintenance, originates in the brain.  A message travels down the spinal column and out into the body.  Subluxations block and slow these messages, and the only way to remove the interference caused by subluxations is to get adjusted.

It is about quality of life!   In order to be at 100%, your body must be functioning at 100%!  It all begins with your Nervous System!  Health comes from within!

Why chiropractic for Children?

Why Chiropractic Care for Children?

Why Should Children Have Chiropractic Care?

More and more parents are seeking chiropractic care for their children. Many spinal problems seen in adults began as early as birth. Even so called 'natural' birthing methods can stress an infant's spine and developing nerve system. The resulting irritation to the nerve system caused by spinal and cranial misalignment can be the cause of many newborn health complaints. Colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections can often be traced to nerve system stress.

Since significant spinal trauma can occur at birth, many parents have their newborns checked right away. As the infant grows, learning to hold up the head, sit, crawl and walk are all activities that affect spinal alignment and are important times to have a child checked by a Doctor of Chiropractic.

As the child begins to participate in regular childhood activities like skating or riding a bike, small yet significant spinal misalignments (subluxations) may occur. If neglected, the injuries during this period of rapid growth may lead to more serious problems later in life. Subtle trauma throughout childhood will affect the future development of the spine leading to impaired nervous system function. Any interference to the vital nerve system will adversely affect the body’s ability to function at its best.

One of the most common reason parents seek care for their child is trauma from an injury of some sort. These misalignments may or may not result in immediate pain or symptoms. Regular chiropractic checkups can identify potential spinal injury from these traumas, make the correction early in life and help avoid many of the health complaints seen later in adults. Proper spinal hygiene is an important key to better health.

Another sought out reason for care is the resolution of a particular symptom or condition. Parents seek care for conditions such as colic, ear infections, asthma, allergies and headaches (to name a few) because they have heard from other parents that chiropractic care can help.

It is important to understand that the doctor of chiropractic does not treat conditions or diseases. The expertise of the chiropractor is in checking the child’s spine for misalignments that impair nervous system function therefore affecting overall body function. The bones of the spine, the vertebrae, house and protect the spinal cord. The spinal cord is an extension of the brain and carries information from the brain to the body parts and back to the brain again. Subluxations interfere with the nerves’ ability to transmit this vital information.

The nerve system controls and coordinates the function of all the systems in the body: circulatory, respiratory, digestive, hormonal, eliminative and immune system. Any aspect of health may be impaired by nerve interference. The chiropractic adjustment restores nerve system function allowing the body the ability to express a greater state of health and well-being.

The doctor of chiropractic will take a case history and perform a chiropractic exam to determine if spinal subluxations exist. Chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to fit a child's size, weight, and unique spinal condition. They are both gentle and specific to the child’s developing spinal structures. Most parents report that their children enjoy their chiropractic adjustments and look forward to subsequent visits. They also report that their children experience a greater level of health while under regular chiropractic care.

To enhance your child’s ability to function in a greater state of health, we can help you find a doctor of chiropractic near you who is dedicated to serving children with the utmost of care. Once your family has experienced the many benefits of chiropractic care—please help us tell others!

Chiropractors Treats The Source, Not Just The Symptom

As the economy continues to wander in unpredictable directions, the number of stress-related health ailments continues to rise. According to a recent Associated Press-AOL Health Poll, some of the more common stress-related ailments include headaches as well as overall stress-induced pain in various parts of the body. It's a good thing that most chiropractors are specially trained to deal with these rather common stress-related aches and pains. In fact, many chiropractors are not only experts in the soft tissues of the body and their related conditions, but additionally, are extremely knowledgeable in those things that degrade overall health and wellness, including stress. Many chiropractors also offer health and wellness related care programs in addition to the more medically-based, and some would argue, less logical symptom-based care. For instance, if you're suffering from headaches due to stress and/or improper posture, it makes far more sense to treat the stress and/or postural deficiencies than to simply seek temporary relief through the ingestion of pain medication. Without properly addressing the cause of the health problem, there is little chance to completely resolve the problem or prevent it from returning in the future. If you're suffering from stress-related aches and pains, give chiropractic a try. Chiropractic is safe, chiropractic is natural and chiropractors focus on the cause of your pain, not just the symptoms it produces.

Chiropractic Care Offers A Better Quality Of Life

A number of studies have shown patients are more likely to be satisfied with their health care experience during a chiropractic visit when compared to a medical visit. One of the likely reasons is that chiropractors tend to educate their patients on their health condition. Actually, one of the wonderful qualities of a chiropractic doctor is their willingness to educate their patients. In a recent study published in the prestigious international journal Spine, researchers found women suffering from chronic low back pain who participated in back school had a significantly improved quality of life score when compared with those who had not participated. Not familiar with the term back school? Well as the name suggests, back school is simply a term referring to any program offered by a health care professional or related company that educates individuals on their back and spine. This includes the back and spinal anatomy, proper postural techniques, training in specific occupational-related tasks and techniques as well as other tips and suggestions to prevent future and manage current back and spinal related problems. While some chiropractors have their own formal back schools in place, most simply provide similar information to their patients on a more personalized, one-on-one environment. Interested in improving your quality of life? It could be as simple as calling your local doctor of chiropractic.

Vitamin C - The New Cancer Fighter?

New research shows vitamin C may have the potential to fight cancer in humans. While this particular study focused on ovarian, pancreatic and brain tumors in laboratory mice (considered aggressive cancers), these results could likely have similar effects in humans. In the study, researchers injected high doses of vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, to allow for larger concentrations in the mice. For those mice receiving the vitamin C injections, cancerous tumor growth was half that of the mice that did not receive the vitamin C injections. The researchers believe that the large amounts of vitamin C produce hydrogen peroxide within the body that kills cancer cells but doesn't appear to harm the normal cells. Their next step will be to test their findings on humans.

We Want A Health Care Overhaul

Been to the doctor lately? What about a recent surgery? Even if you haven't, simply paying your health insurance premiums will be enough for you to understand how expensive health related costs have become. In fact, the premiums for family health insurance increased from $1,275 in 1996 to $2,890, and for single coverage, from $342 in 1996 to $788 in 2006. For those of you without insurance, cost is most likely the reason. This is the primary reason why more than 80 percent of Americans feel our health system is due for, excuse our choice of words, a stick of dynamite. What's more, 32 percent of Americans agree that the health system is in need of an overhaul while 50 percent believe it would require a fundamental change. Only 16 percent of adults believe the health care system works relatively well with only minor changes needed. With these staggering cost increases, a 16 percent satisfaction rate and close to 50 million Americans uninsured, what exactly are we waiting for?
